Cheap Web Hosting Plan, Be Ware
March 13, 2009
A cheaper plan doesn’t always mean a lower quality service. The most common way for a web host to offer a cheap web hosting plan is to increase volume and store more sites. Typically, the more people that are sharing the cost of the server, the lower the price for everyone. The web host doesn’t have to skimp on add-ons or email capabilities or site building tools to lower their cost as their cost is fixed.
Of course, some cheap web hosting plans are just that, cheap. Some are from untested companies that offer little to no customer support and no guarantee that your data will be kept safe or even accessible 24/7. Just because the price is low, doesn’t mean you should sign on the dotted line. Some things to consider with any new host are:
- Storage
- Bandwidth
- Uptime
- Customer Service
A logical question might be; If web hosts are cramming more and more hosting accounts onto their server, won’t they eventually get overwhelmed? Generally speaking, the more sites you add the more resources a server would need. Most servers today do a pretty good job of throttling processes and requests to a shared server.
Always look for a web hosting provider with solid data, near 100% uptime and customer support 24/7/365. There are a lot of fly by night operators our there but many very reputable and reliable hosts. You really can’t go wrong with the popular web hosts. Be careful when signing up with any host that you have never heard of before.
